Frequently Asked Questions
What if I already know how to perform the lifts correctly?
In our experience as certified Starting Strength Coaches, many people may not accurately assess their movements, particularly their hips and back positioning during lifts. However, if your form is already perfect, you'll receive confirmation and reassurance from a professional coach's perspective.
What if I don't do all the primary barbell lifts?
No worries. You can simply record the main lifts you currently perform in your training program, preferably one for each major movement pattern or body part, and receive feedback on your execution.
Do I need special equipment to participate?
No special equipment is needed beyond standard gym equipment. A smartphone for recording your lifts and access to a squat rack, barbell, weights, bench, and pull-up bar are all that's required.
How does the coaching sample work?
You receive feedback from a Starting Strength Coach on your execution of the primary barbell lifts, including tips for improvement and safety. For more details, see the "How It Works" section above.
What does it mean to be a certified Starting Strength Coach?
A certified Starting Strength Coach has successfully completed rigorous evaluations and certification processes. While other trainers may use the Starting Strength method, a certified coach has the credentials and expertise to help you achieve your goals safely and effectively.
How does a workout in the Starting Strength Method look like?
From the outside, it may appear as a regular barbell training workout, consisting of 3-5 exercises with a barbell, performing a low number of reps and sets per exercise. The difference that makes the difference is by perfecting the execution of each exercise and gradually increasing the load, leading to steady strength gains.
Can I really get stronger without getting injured?
Yes, by following the Starting Strength Method’s Movement Model. This method emphasizes proper form and progressive loading, significantly reducing the risk of injuries while consistently building strength and muscle mass.

Why isn't my current workout routine making me stronger?
Many popular workout routines focus on general exertion rather than strength gains. To achieve real progress, it’s crucial to follow a proven strength training method like Starting Strength, which emphasizes proper form and incremental load increases.

How quickly can I expect to see results?
Results vary depending on individual abilities and dedication to learning the barbell lifts correctly. Many trainees start to notice improvements in their strength and technique within the first few weeks. Continuous, dedicated effort will yield the best results over time.
What equipment do I need for online coaching?
You’ll need access to a commercial gym, which typically includes a squat rack, barbell, weights, a bench for bench press, and a pull-up bar. You'll also need to record your lifts using your smartphone for the video analysis.
